The thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland located in your neck that plays a vital role in your body's metabolism by producing hormones that regulate many essential functions in every cell of the body, including metabolism (chemical reactions) and growth. Hypothyroidism is a state experienced when the body does not produce enough thyroid hormones. It is also referred to as an under-active thyroid.

How is hypothyroidism diagnosed?
A blood test to investigate thyroid hormone levels can be used to diagnose thyroid conditions. A full thyroid panel including antibodies is important to examine if the underlying cause of hypothyroidism is autoimmune. TSH alone does not give the full picture.
If indicated, Jodie can order a full thyroid panel as part of your naturopathic consultation.
